Reflective Journal (Business Communication)

The experience of doing this business report for Business Communication module was an unforgettable one as we started with hardships of finding a company to interview but ended with a complete report filled with satisfaction. This reflective journal explains my expectation towards the assignments and also the lessons that I had learned throughout the process.
Before embarking into this business report, my expectation is to have a group of members that I can rely on. From the past experiences during Foundation in Taylor’s, I had to take up the responsibilities of researching, typing out the contents and proofreading the group assignments as the members did not execute their parts effectively. It was tiresome but fruitful at the same time as the result was excellent. However, I strongly believed if the group members able to contribute more, the outcome of the assignment would be much better. The process of doing this business report fulfilled my expectation very well. The group members practiced integrity and I am really glad that everyone carried out their parts effectively and efficiently. We delegated the tasks equally among each other and discussed the contents together to have a consensus. Thanks to Kit Voon, one of our group members, the process of doing the report was smooth and we did not have to rush the business report.
Next, the process of preparing this business report had really taught me a lot of lessons. One of them is the willingness to take risks. I learned that every decisions that I made will have its’ own risks and as a future entrepreneur, risk is a norm. Before this, I seldom took risk into consideration as I was afraid that I will lose something if I choose to take risks. However, from the interview with the assistant manager, I realised that the owner of Shakespeare took the risky path by setting up the restaurant in an area that is filled with competitors which can be a huge threat for Shakespeare. However, I personally think that the owner managed to weigh more pros over cons in choosing that area as it is a highly populated place for students and also workers, hence the risk was worth it.
Besides that, I also learned the value of tolerance through the process. Tolerance is crucial when it comes to teamwork because everyone has their different opinions on something and they assume that they are right. It does not mean that who has the loudest voice is always right and definitely cannot be applied in teamwork. During the process of preparing this business report, it was hard at first to communicate as everyone has their independent opinions on how to write the discussions. But I learned to listen to others’ opinions and analysed them, so that I could find a way to combine all the ideas to create a better one.

In conclusion, business report really benefits me in different aspects and I really anticipated more of this type of group assignments.
